According to Batman Begins writer David Goyer, Harvey Dent will be played by actor Aaron Eckhart, but he may not appear as his alter ego Two-Face in the upcoming The Dark Knight despite previous reports. “I think Harvey Dent has been mentioned,” Goyer told SCI FI Wire. ”I don’t know that Two-Face has been mentioned.”
“All I can say is some people raised their eyebrows when they heard there were going to be two villains in the first film, but I think that one worked out just fine,” says Goyer. The fact that The Dark Knight will feature Batman’s greatest archrival The Joker bodes well for Two-Face to hold out as the nemesis for a possible third film in the revived franchise.
Though director Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan is credited with writing the screenplay for The Dark Knight, Goyer is not completely giving up on Batman. ”I wrote what you’d call a ’scriptment’ with Chris over an accelerated monthlong period, and then we handed it off to his brother, who did the first pass,” explains Goyer. ”Jonathan is a very gifted screenwriter in his own right.”
David Goyer is currently completing work on his directorial debut The Invisible to be released later this month.
Actor Heath Ledger recently spoke to Newsweek about his role as The Joker in the upcoming The Dark Knight. When asked if he had tried on The Joker mask yet, Ledger responded, “Metaphorically, yes. I’ve been bouncing around like a lunatic for four months. I definitely have a different take on him, but I’ve yet to do a proper makeup run. It’s on the agenda.” Asked if he has been walking around the house practicing the infamous Joker laugh, Ledger says, “I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been.”
