Actor Christian Bale told MTV that fans should expect a more realistic portrayal of The Joker as opposed to some of the other more over-the-top interpretations of the character in previous incarnations.
“I think I should let Heath [Ledger] give you the answer on all this,” said Bale. “Certainly I think that we dig a little more than the other movies did…We recognize, of course, they are cartoon characters, [but] we try to ground them in somewhat more reality than the other movies.”
Variety reports that Lt. James Gordon will be getting a family in next year’s The Dark Knight. Close to Home’s Melinda McGraw has been cast as Gordon’s wife, while Nathan Gamble from last year’s Babel has been cast as their son.
No word yet if daughter Barbara Gordon - who eventually becomes Batgirl - will be included in the film.

Chicago commuters trying to cross the Wacker Drive bridge were stopped by a military convoy which turned out to be actors filming a scene for The Dark Knight. Check out the video footage from ABC 7 Chicago here.
SuperHeroHype recently spoke with actor Christian Bale about working on The Dark Knight while promoting his upcoming film Rescue Dawn in New York. He admitted things are a little easier this time around after the success of Batman Begins.
“It’s been a lot easier because of that,” expains Bale. “People aren’t questioning, ‘Are they going to do it or not?’ There’s been an acceptance of, ‘Yes, these guys know what they’re doing’ and also, because we got so familiar with each other…it’s now the third movie that I made with Chris (Nolan) and Michael Caine. I’ve gotten to know everybody. We all know how we all work. It’s like my fifth movie with the D.P. It just flies along because there’s no question in trying to sort of work each other out at all. We all know how we like to do it, and there’s a nice shorthand between us all in terms of communication.”
Though they’ve proven they can make a great film, the actor says they still feel pressure to top the first film. “Yes, you must, you have to do that. If we’re just doing the same, then what’s the point? There are people who should demand that, but it does get better, so we have to do that. That would be the death knell, wouldn’t it? If we all got complacent, just said, ‘Oh, we just have to bang out the same thing we did before.’ Sure, we use the strengths, and we’re not going to discard the things that worked, but we’ve got to move forward as well.”

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight production company Legendary Pictures has extended its deal with Warner Bros. through 2012 Variety reports. The deal includes an additional $1 billion in financing which Legendary will use to co-finance new projects with Warner Bros.
In addition to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, Legendary Pictures has produced the films 300 and Superman Returns with Warner Bros. In the pipeline for the company is the DC comic’s The Losers, an adaptation of the television series Kung Fu and a remake of Clash of the Titans.
Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. began their partnership in 2005.
Singapore actor Ng Chin Han has been cast in next year’s The Dark Knight. Chin Han told Channel NewsAsia he’s feeling the pressure of working with such big name actors. “That’s the great part about working with these guys. And they obviously come with a great body of work and that’s very exciting for me.”
Chin Han had to go through a grueling and secretive audition process that lasted about eight weeks. “The scripts that they let you read for the auditions are not the scripts for the exact film movie because everything’s so top secret,” explained Chin Han. “You get scripts that are printed on special paper that cannot be photocopied, there are invisible watermarks, all kinds of things. You feel like a spy in a James Bond movie when you are looking at these scripts.”
Though Chin Han is not well known outside Singapore, he has had a successful twenty year career, especially in theater. “Theatre is wonderfully exciting, it’s very organic. You have an audience…It might sound like a clich? but there’s nothing like seeing the smiles on the face of an audience at the end of the play or musical. I think that’s very fulfilling.”
There has been no announcement yet on what role Chin Han will portray in the upcoming film.
